Jan,

Thanks a lot.
I'm not sure if the S/N would be under the screwpost or not, that's why I asked.

Would it be possible that you post a scan of the reverse of a V2, please?

Thanks a lot.

Best,

Dolf

Jan,

Crystal clear buddy! ;)

The difference is indeed pretty much visible here! Funny, I don't remember seeing another piece like this one before!

Thanks a lot.

Best,

Dolf

T2 V ?

Gentlemen,

Would this one be a T2 V1 S1 (S/N at 6 o'clock, according to Jan's list posted on another thread) or a T2 V1 S2 (S/N UNDER the SP, according to the same source) ?!

Opinions please?

Thanks,

Dolf

Has anyone seen a medal ribbon bar like this? This is for the Order of the Polar Star.

Polar Star serial numbers

I have a question about serial numbers of the Polar Star order. I know from the "types and variations" thread in the Mongolian section that there is a serious overlap of serial numbers of the type 2 and type 3.

Did the Soviet-made type 2's arrive in Mongolia without serial numbers, and the mint workers in UlaanBataar mixed the two types together and then serial numbered them? Or did the serial numbers start at 1 for the type 2's, and then start over again at 1 for the type 3's? Or were the type 2's serial numbered in the USSR and then shipped to Mongolia?

Reason I'm asking is that I have a type 2 with #1031, and a type 3 with #1035, and they are engraved in different spots on the order (as appropriate for their variation), and seem to be engraved by a different person and with a different rotating tool. The number on the type 2 is more lightly engraved and the grooves are less wide than on the type 3.

Any insight into how these orders were serial numbered would be appreciated...

It would seem they started all over again at 1, although there is no hard evidence for that.

Bedankt Jan,

That's what I was thinking too. So then the type 2's were most likely engraved in the Soviet Union if indeed they were separately numbered?
