Parachutist Badge.

I was wondering if anyone had a good source for information about post 91 to today Russian Federation paratrooper badges. What do they look like?

Re: Post 91 paratrooper badges

Russia continued to use the Soviet ones until the mid-1990s. Some old timers still wear the Soviet ones as of today, however.

I don't know when the attached badge originated, but I know it was awarded as early as 1994. It is the most common, "official" one I've seen. I've seen it in both gold and silver and I don't know whether it is a production variety or I've told gold is for officers and silver for NCO/enlisted.

Re: Post 91 paratrooper badges

I have seen two versions prior to the one you just posted.

One uses the old Soviet style badges, but with a gold star in place of the red one.

Then there are two that I received from a generally reliable seller, who claim that they are what the Russian Federation used at least right after 1994.

Russian Air Force and Paratrooper Badges from 1992-2006

I'm likely to take down the paratrooper badge section until I can verify it (I'm working on that page right now). But any help you can offer would be welcome.

I miss the old reliability of Soviet Central Planning, it was much easier for collectors (if not for its citizens)...

Re: Post 91 paratrooper badges

There are SO many Russian Federation jumper badges that it is almost impossible to catalogue them all. It must be remembered that even in the Soviet Union the Paratrooper Badges were not state nor ministerial awards.

The Badge shown on the site linked is in fact Transnistrian and not Russian.

Re: Post 91 paratrooper badges

I've only ever seen it in wear once. On parade in Tiraspol. They don't have a giant airborne force (one or two aircraft currently) so these Badges are produced well beyond the number expected to be awarded.

Re: Post 91 paratrooper badges

Thank you both for the expert help and experience! I will remove it from the site tonight. It is too hard to know everything about every aspect of the Russian army for 200 years without help :)
