Badge for Excellence in Socialist Competition, Ministry of Food

Hello,

what do you think about this excellence badge. The silver stamp looks blury and the enamel looks strange. That is what concerns me.

best regards and thanks
Andreas

The general lack of crisp detail and poor quality of enamel make me think this is one to miss :thumbsdown

I don't have a lot of these sort of badges in my collection but the few I do have have sharp details and beautiful enamel. This looks shoddy, perhaps a cast copy?

Re: Badge for Excellence in Socialist Competition, Ministry of Food

Simon, I understand making "hole filler" or museum copies of the really high dollar stuff like early Cheka, OGPU and NKVD school and other badges because some of the people who collect that field don't always look too closely and still hand over the money. But is the market for "excellence in..." badges that hot for somebody to spend a great deal of time creating the mold for the cast in the first place?

Then again, if the seller could get $300-500 or more each and sell just a few in different places to keep suspicion off, he could turn a pretty good profit for his labor. Bummer.:(

The enamel is the dead giveaway in my opinion. Much too dull and "flat."

Phillip, I guess it is a case of cost against reward. Once you have the mould and the necessary "enamel" how many would someone need to sell to make a profit? Perhaps not that many if they can be sold for a reasonable price. Certainly in this case someone definitely appears to have thought it was worthwhile.

As the saying where I originally came from in England goes "There's nowt so queer as folk".

So that's the origin of the name of the HBO or ShowTime series.:chuckle I had no idea it was based on anything.

However, the point is taken.
