I like the Let's Go series of books, but Lonely Planet is popular too. Bring a book (or copies therefrom ) and you will have no problems.

Dark socks and anything but you basic "white" tennis shoes. Nothing says "Hi, I'm an American" more than a white tee-shirt, cargo shorts (blue jeans), white socks and white tennis shoes.
So go for the opposite. Oh, and get a speedo for the beaches. That way you blend in.

Wearing lots of addidas gear and soccer (or futbol) jerseys (shirts) will give an effective air of Euro-ness to you. Pick up a United shirt or two whilst over there. This year's kit is way better than last.

And when you go to Italy, please learn by heart the song "O sole mio"; when in France don't forget to have in your pockets a "french baguette or croissant" and a liter of red wine (can be brought from Italia by the way... ), and don't forget french fries when in Belgium...
You guys are really funny!!!!! Ch. |

Camping in the wilderness is not allowed everywhere in Europe; I'd say that where it is allowed, it actually tends to be the exception rather than the rule. As to Egypt, I would definitely not camp out there; there are some very cheap hotels. Marc PS: man, that was a good movie! |

Good advice all around given above...
Take the advice of these guys above or else you run some definite risks of having problems with the guys who are there to protect you. Also, you'll have a very, very annoyed consular officer at the nearest US Embassy if you get thrown in the tank over something that could have been avoided, and they can't get you out of it (contrary to popular belief), but can only try to keep you from being beaten depending on the country you visit. : Trust me on this when I say that I really know what I'm talking about.
