History in Ribbons!

Hey guys! I hope everyone is doing well. Lately I've kept my eyes open for older ribbon bars, sometimes they tell nice stories about the veteran's life. Here are 3 I bought recently.

1: Hero Cop, this guy had a GPW-2, Glory and two Braveries--as well as campaign medals for Berlin and Prague (?) His 50 Years of Militia and Long Service Awards for 10, 15, and 20 years paint a nice story. :thumbsup
It's a nice brass bar too, curved for comfortable wear.

2. Hero military guy, similar awards to the rack above. GPW-2, Glory, 2 Braveries, and Berlin and Vienna campaign medals. Long service medals for 10 and 15 years.. It's a cool steel / tin? bar with cloth ribbons under the plexiglass. The size is smaller than most I've seen too.

That is a nice one indeed, in a world where assembled fakes proliferate. While the "artistry" of these domed plastic bars can be frustrating, the history is savory.

:thumbsup

Re: History in Ribbons!

3. "Make my own rules" military guy, the ribbon bar was probably made by the veteran himself with what looks to be watercolors under plexiglass. Likely an officer, he had a GPW-1, GPW-2, 2 Red Stars; the bar has a pretty strong disregard for the order of precedence of medals. His 20 year long service medal comes first, alongside his Combat Service, Victory over Germany, Victory over Japan, Koenigsberg, and jubilee medals. He also has some allied (Romania orders of the Star of SRR?) orders all the way down in the bar.

Thanks for checking these out! :thumbsup
George

To me, the bottom row looks Vietnamese, which makes it (maybe) even more interesting.

Re: History in Ribbons!

IMHO they´re Sino-Soviet friendship medal ribbons.

Re: History in Ribbons!

I dig those Mongolian ribbons, thanks for sharing! :thumbsup I've managed to assemble a near-full set of the early brass ones, but the ribbon bars are also really hard to find. I think many folks forget that Mongolia is a pretty small country population-wise.

That would be cool if those two bottom ribbons were Vietnamese! Right now I am leaning toward the Romania theory, possibly Order of the Star of the Romanian People's Republic? Orders and Medals of the Romanian People's Republic and the Socialist Republic of Romania Compare with Vietnam ribbons, I don't find an exact match? Vietnam awards and decorations - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I am not 100% sure on the Romania theory though, the Order of the Star is a pretty high award for a foreigner--especially one who is an officer, but doesn't have a Red Banner on the rack. :)

Esteban, thanks for that theory as well..I am investigating further.

Re: History in Ribbons!

The first two are from the same vet, just a different, but close, time-frame.
On the last bar the last two ribbons may be Distinguised Service medals, 1st & 2nd Class.

Good catch, Eric! Don't know why I didn't think of that. Yes, must be from the same guy. :thumbsup
