In the period of preparing and carrying out the offensive activities of the Division to liberate the cities of Herson - Berislavl' - Nikolaev Comrade Gurman showed himself to be a courageous, honest and devoted fighter.
For all the time located and operating in the group of the Political Section, helping workers of the Political Section with operating communications with the Party-Political apparatus units.
He timely lodged documents, well put in cases of production and accounts of political staff with the units.
Under repeated enemy fire, without regard for time he performed any task accurately and on time.
Comrade Gurman is worthy of the Governmental Award - The Medal "For Combat Merits".

I think that his function was more like: writer - typewriter operator.
Not sure if it looks good in English, but the "machinist" sounds like steam engine driver to me.
