Hello

I just got this piece in. Its badly made in term of what we are used to but as I collect bravery awards I could not resist. Can anyone tell me more about it and what it would have been awarded for?

The award came in a very nice box. The box is designed for the order book to be stored in the one side. The quality of design and manufacture of the box is better than the order.

Can someone please translate what the order book says. Thanks

Munroe

Hi Munroe,

Here's the translation of the Order Book:

First page - has the name of the recepient: Victor Ivanovich Aksyonov
On the bottom it says: Order Book - Series AC 008607

Second page - Awarded with the Distinction of the President of the Ukraine - Order of Bravery 3rd class
President of Ukraine: signature of Leonid Kuchma

Decree of the President of Ukraine dated October 14, 1999

Award number 7965.

Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma signed decree to award Vitali Klichko with Order of Bravery 1st class.

Last weekend Ukrainian heavyweight boxer became World Champion in WBC version (by beating Sanders of South Africa). He's the only boxer from the former USSR to secure the title in the professional boxing.

Award was given for demonstrated bravery, selflesness and winning spirit, as well as for promoting Ukrainian sports image.

Hmmm, he didn't get it after fighting Lewis :o , but Sanders (who is semi-pro Golf player, btw), sure, bravery it is!

Russian Order For Bravery/Khmelnitsky Medals

These I've seen on eBay for a while.
I thought I'd share the images.
What I find most interesting is the way mintmarks and serial numbers are attached.
Not sure if any of this is legit as the seller is a known purveyor of fakes

The s/n is NOT a sticker, although it appears to be one from the photos. It is punched onto a flat, smoothed out portion.

Thanks for clearing that up Paul. It looked like they were using some sort of hologram/watermarked stick-on thing. Good to know they're still doing things the old fashioned way. :)

Re: Ukranian Bravery Medal

From what I've seen, most of these were awarded to elderly WWII veterans.
