I finally found a source, through Book Finder, for Schmitt, Rainer - "The Awards of the People's Republic and of the Socialist Republic of Romania 1948 until 1989" - in German. I expect delivery any day now (from Germany) and will give it a review here. The book itself is not all that expensive (especially nowadays) at about $45, but postage cost from Germany really jack-up the price. Wish someone carried it over here.

Well, finally received the book by Rainer Schmitt- "The Awards of the People's Republic and of the Socialist Republic of Romania 1948 until 1989" - in German. A bit disappointing if you're used to books with a lot of colour photos, front and back views and details on the awards themselves. This is not that. It is a guide book- a recognition book- with very few colour plates and black and white images on rough stock that are high contrast so they print looking more like illustrations... a guide book. However, having said all of this, it IS one of the few books available on the subject and it DOES offer the differences in the awards from the RPR period and the RSR period. It's a good book to have NOW, but I believe the door is still very much open to someone who would take on the task of writing the DEFINITIVE Romanian awards book.
