Can anyone tell me when the change from the narrow, pin-back ribbon bars to the sew-on, fruit-salad ribbon bars occured?

I have some photos of, what I think are, men in M69 service uniforms wearing narrow ribbon bars. Was that common during the 1969-early 70's time period?

An interesting pic about how to wear orders and medals (Soviet and Russians)...

This pic shows Vladimir Putin with Red Army veterans of WW2, at the Bolshoi theater, on 8 May 2005, on the occasion of the celebrations of the 60 years of the end of WW2.

Even if Putin is there, interesting to notice :

The man in civil clothes, on the left of the pic, has his own way to wear his medals (quite classical).

The second man on the left (right to Putin) has a more conventional way to wear them. But, if you carefully look at them, you will notice on the last row (the bottom one) some Umatalova medals. These are "unofficial" and have been forbidden by the Russian Government.
You will notice from left to right : 2nd medal : Marshal Zhukov Centenary Medal, 4th medal : Medal for 80th Anniversary of the Soviet Armed Forces...

The third man (left to Putin) has also his own order to wear them, with the long service medal on first place. Interesting to notice the place of the Order of Friendship of People and the Order of the Red Banner of Labor. This is not an unusual way to wear the orders, on the top of the medals.

Etc, etc...

A nice and interesting pic.

Close-up pic of the medals of the second man on the left (right to Putin) :

On the last row (the bottom one) some Umatalova medals. From left to right : 2nd medal : Marshal Zhukov Centenary Medal, 4th medal : Medal for 80th Anniversary of the Soviet Armed Forces...

I don't know. I've not been able to identify it...

Here is a better pic. If someone succeeds in finding what it is...

Ch.

Guard Badge / Pilot Wings order of precedence

Hello,
What is the precedence order among the badges on uniform?
I know they will go under the orders of USSR, but what's the order among the different badges?

More precisely, among those 2 "right-breast" badges, which of the Red Guard and the Pilot Wings would go first on a uniform?

Thanks in advance,

It is in the regulations as to where specifically the badges are lined up at, but I believe that the pilot wings are always higher on the chest than than the guard badge, academy badge, and so on.

Thanks Tim!
I don't have the regulations for uniforms, but I was looking to decorate a uniform I have at home which already had 3 holes on the right breast for awards/badges.

You may want to post a pic of the tunic here and indicate where the holes are, and people may give you suggestions as to what might go in those holes... :)

Here is a pic (sorry for low quality - this is the only I have for now and my camera usb cable is... in Ukraine now so cannot transfer new pictures to my PC!)

It's a M55 Air Force Captain parade uniform. I put a number (1,2,3) where there are small holes with still the circular shape of the screwplate inside the tunic.

I didn't want to spend to much money to decorate it but still wanted to have something 100% original. So, I was thinking to put an order of Red Star in (1), then a Pilot Wings 1950-type in (2) and a guard badge in (3).

I don't know for 55 regulations, but those from 1958 say it is impossible to have right-side-orders and badges in one row - and the holes are so. So I suggest buying some additional badge or... additional 2 orders...

Thanks for the info Al-muell.

But in my opinion, the holes are not in one row, but in three different rows. To me, to be on the same row, two holes would need to be left (or right) to each other. Here, each holes is over (or under) another. It's just that instead of going down straight, they seem to follow the shape of the collar and make a inclined top-bottom line.

So, what's the good answer? What could I put in those holes?
