Documented Group

Here's a group I bought recently. This officer certainly got a chest full between 1962 and 1990. It's a shame I don't have a clue what nearly everything in the documents say. I'll be framing them for display I'm sure.

Re: Documented Group

I will take some more pictures once I have these framed (and borrow a camera) I am planning to frame them with the documents in a U shape 3X3 documents with the space in the U to have the 3 2nd class orders on the top row with 3 3rd class in a row under that and 2 3rd class under that (as I believe they are worn). This group was awarded to a Choi Rain-Tsi (or similar Anglicisation) but how on earth would I go about researching them?

Re: Documented Group

It's a little difficult to see from the photos, but do all of the documents have matching birth dates for this recipient? In several it looks like the birth date is 1948, in one it looks like 1939 ?

I assume we´ll just have to wait for Mr. Kim and his personal feud to burn to the ground to do so.

Re: Documented Group

Gratuitous snark aside, the day will come when research will (probably) be possible for some things. Anything numbered has a register lurking somewhere. Other items, it will be less likely.

We can certainly hope.
But most DPRK awards have been awarded without serial numbers, even when a space is provided on the back for a number. Some of the Orders of the National flag and Freedom and Independence are numbered, as are the Orders of Kim Il Sung, but the Hero stars are unnumbered, so even if a registry exists that some day becomes available, it will not be possible to match Hero Stars with a corresponding number, as can be done with the Soviet examples.

Additionally, I read recently that, since the late 1940's, the DPRK has awarded over six million Orders! I'm thinking that they probably have not brought whatever register they have into the computer age, so if a fire ever does break out in whatever warehouse they store the records in (not unlike the fire at our military archives in St. Louis in 1972), we'll all be out of luck on the research front.
