UML badge with the diploma:

The badge I posted also has smaller heads, but the color of enamel is different.

What does it mean?

Best,
William

No source I have found seems to know the difference in the badge variations. There are three options.

1) The pessimist - many are fakes made by greedy badge companies.

2) The neutral - the design changed over time.

3) The optimist - the different badge designs refer to different schools, (day and night, Moscow and Leningrad etc.).

The truth may be a combination of all three options.

Notice, both Ed Hayes and my badges have the state seal a bit off center...

I believe mine to be genuine...

otlichnik: you bring up very interesting points!

Shawn,

In this case the pessimist is right, those badges are still being coined in the Baltic States. I know this for fact, but I have never asked my supplier for pictures of those fakes.

Forgive me if I am stating the obvious here but would the initals not stand for ooniversitat marx lenin? I have seen the blue version for sale more so that the red version but as Nota Bene this is irelavent due to the number of fakes being produced.
