Military Service Honour Order.
The Military Service Honour Order (군사복무영예훈장) was founded 3rd July 1973 and comes in three classes. The Military Service Honour Order 1st Class ranks just above all Commemorative Orders. The 2nd Class ranks just below the 3 Revolutions Red Banner Order and the 3rd Class ranks just above the Soldier's Honour Order 2nd Class.
None of these Orders are serial numbered. Firstly we have the Military Service Honour Order 1st Class Type 1. Constructed from plated copper and featuring a Soldier, Sailor and Airman in front of Mount Baekdu.

Re: Order Of Military Service Honour Guide.
Here is the 2nd Type which has been reduced in weight and is still constructed in a single piece of plated copper.

Re: Order Of Military Service Honour Guide.
Here is the Military Service Honour Order 2nd Class Type 2 Variation 1. The "lightened" type but still constructed from two pieces.

Re: Order Of Military Service Honour Guide.
Here is the second variation of the second type. This variation sticks out most to me due to the variation in the letter ᄇ in 부.

Since the 3rd class was never shown . . . .
The 1st type I assume (?). And, as with the "Flag", it is useful to be reminded of the size differences among the classes. |

Re: Order Of Military Service Honour.
In the recent film "The Interview" (you may not have heard of it - it was a very muted release) there is an absolute abundance of OMSH3s. It is the only award shown in the film and surprisingly it also seems that they are all real (unlike the slightly off ribbon bars - which are identical and fake flag badges).
It wouldn't surprise me if these real awards were used as it was cheaper to obtain them than reproduce them (they very frequently sell for under $1). Very reasonable wardrobes but unfortunately just missed the mark, certainly closer to reality that all those "homemade" uniforms worn by the Germans in so many early Second World War films or Soviets in Cold War/James Bond type films.

Re: Order Of Military Service Honour.
Yes, a muted release indeed. :D
I saw that as well and had the same thoughts--that likely real orders were used instead of copies. For me, this was an area of a missed opportunity for the movie; it would have been an interesting image to have one of those generals with orders "from neck to bellybutton." Instead, Hollywood went understated..in this way, anyway. Ugh, looks like uncle Jang Sung-taek is still in the shot below. George |

Re: Order Of Military Service Honour.
CtahhR, do you know which branch of service do the guys near Kim belong to? Their uniforms seem to have a lighter shade of khaki and don´t have colored bands on their visor caps.
