Tal,

Our "favorite" dealer sells this medal on his site for $185!!!!!!!

Now, compare to his price - $97.50 is cheap!

Advice requested

Hello, fellow collectors, I need some advice.
I have just returned from Tashkent, where i bought a few interesting things (all posted or being posted here).
I have been offered an order of glory first class (no.258) for 800$, an order of patriotic war 2nd class, type 1 variations 2 and 3($150 each) I bought the Ist class, type !, variation 3 (posted under orders) for 300$.
I have also been offered a Hero of the SU for $800 (I will get the no. this week and check it) without docs.
Last but not least 20 years of Cheka badge for 800$
All guaranteed originals otherwise sellers will take them back.

Please , can our more market savvy friends advice me on these prices

Tashkentski,

If the items are genuine the prices are WAY below the current market value even in Russia.

Something smells rotten...be careful. If you feel the guy is honest, I would buy the one which looks the most authentic and have it looked at by Paul McDaniel. Then proceed slowly in buying more if it is authentic. With the prices you've listed, the cost associated with authentication is quite negligible. A COA is always desirable (more so for the Glory 1c, and HSU ) and will always add to the value of the award.

BTW, looking up the HSU number won't do much good..given the fact that you don't have the docs, and that the forgers have equal access to the same numbers book as we collectors

Thank you chaps. I bought a OGPW 1st class from him for 300, which friends on the forum have pronounced a fake. So along with this and a few more items described as fakes on the forum, i will send it to Paul. The question is how do i do this?. Any suggestions on contacting the maestro?

We do need to remember, friends, that someone who buys in Tashkent, who lives in Dubai, may not find that sending things "to Paul" is the easiest thing to do.

The only part that is a little time consuming is the extra paperwork that may be necessary. I send packages to all points on the globe with no big hassle. Unless you happen to have an expert in authenticating Soviet Awards in Dubai, Paul is probably the best solution

You can contact Paul McDaniel via his website, http://www.historicalresearch.com/

Tashkentski,

Please let us know what Paul has to say. You do understand that we do not pronounce items fakes or not, all we can do without actually seen them is to present our opinions.
