leningrad medal
There are two variation of the Leningrad medal with soldered rings.
One with the wall reaching to the description and one with the wall reaching to the rim of the medal. Which is the rarer one? regards and thanks Andreas |

Andreas,
The one which stops before the text is rarer than the one which goes all the way to the rim. Marc |

Hi,
here is one of my Leningrad medals. It has thick and nice gold plating and it is so called ''polished sky'' variation. |

Leningrad specs
Can anyone share the weight variances on the 1a 1b and 2 variations for the Defense of Leningrad award. I have conflicting info and want to be sure. Thanks in advance.

Re: Defense of Leningrad specs
I've got mine weighed, but don't have the data in front of me. I can say (based on memory - I can confirm later) that in general, a 60's or later version seems to come in around 15.5g to 16g, whereas most wartime campaign medals will be in the 16.5g to 17.5g range. Also, with early Leningrads (and Moscows, Stalingrads, and Kafkaz's), some of them have soldered connecting links, giving them a slight boost in weight.

Weights for 23 V1 Leningrads...
Below are weights on 23 V1 Leningrads. I can't find data on my V2's (maybe I don't have one, but I can't remember). Here's what I have on V1 Leningrads I've weighed. There were probably more with soldered rings than listed below, but I seemed to have recorded that in all cases. I also didn't record long/short wall/horizon for all of them.
V1 - 17.63g - short horiz V1 - 16.98g - long horiz V1 - 16.60g - short horiz V1 - 16.69g - short horiz V1 - 17.63g - short horiz V1 - 17.37g - short horiz/soldered ring V1 - 17.00g - ? V1 - 17.67g - ? V1 - 17.14g - long horiz V1 - 16.82g - ? V1 - 16.43g - ? V1 - 16.18g - ? V1 - 16.45g - ? V1 - 16.82g - short horiz V1 - 17.04g - long horiz V1 - 16.98g - short horiz V1 - 17.08g - long horiz V1 - 17.73g - short horiz V1 - 17.27g - long horiz V1 - 17.25g - long horiz V1 - 17.48g - long horiz V1 - 17.09g - long horiz V1 - 17.72g - short horiz/soldered ring |

Leningrad with engraved Suspension !?
Hello guys,
I just purchased this one; what does that engraving mean ? Is it something special, or just a nice gimmick ? I also noticed that the gold plating is very, very shiny and quite thick - were these ones given for special people or events during the war ? Thank you, Jens* Last edited by Shocktrooper; 07-08-2010 at 02:16 PM. |

Nice medal! Perhaps the recipient's name, document number and date?
