This award was presented on 10 May 1992 by Ukraine's President Leonid Kravchuk to the Ukrainian Bandurist Chorus at a banquet held in the president's honor in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

*) Ukraine declared its independence from the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics on 24 August 1991. At the time this award was issued many Soviet-era items, including medals and seals such as these, were still in use.

These look like transitional awards - they still used Urkainian SSR stamp.

The medal is the same as from the Soviet times - just blue-red ribbon was repleced with yellow-blue to reflect colors of the new Ukrainian banner.

The Prize was awarded shortly after the Ukraine became independent (August 1991) and Soviet Union ceased to exist (December 1991).
