Now, there is one for $7,200 :wow

To all:

And it's an official mint duplicate (and not the original-issue piece) to boot. If he wants $7,200.00 for a duplicate, one can only imagine what his asking price for an original-issue piece would be.

He also currently has a Category 1 Full Cavalier set listed with the added bonus of the winner's Ordenskaya Knizhka being included. Sadly, the Glory 3rd Class in the set is an original substitute (not mint duplicate) piece. Even with this less than original group, he's still asking $13,500.00.

Slava,

I am unclear at what you mean. As far as I know, commercially speaking, a duplicate is rarer, and dearer, than an original.

Marc,

Thank you for your question. In my view a duplicate should not command a higher price than an original-issued piece. The value associated with an original piece should always be higher than that of an officially produced duplicate.

As an example, there were instances of original-issue Order of Glory 1st Class awards being personally presented to Full Cavaliers by Marshals of the Soviet Union - Rokossovskiy is one such case in point.

In the case of duplicate awards, they were often presented many years after the fact and generally were awarded via the local military commissariat where the Full Cavalier vet resided at the time. To associate more value to a piece simply because it bears the cyrillic letter "d" is frivolous in my view.

Another Price Threshold is Broken

I feel that both the dealer and the buyer both lose. Higher prices for the buyer means less people able to buy these items at the inflated price. As for the dealer, the cost to him to obtain items to sell has gone up and he now has a smaller pool of potential buyers for these items.:banghead

Best,
Doc

I agree with your point of voew (historic importance), but as Marc said duplicates are rarer than original pieces and are normally in better condition.

Laurent,

Thank you for your thoughts. Personally, however, a duplicate remains a duplicate for me. The "rarity" dealers ascribe to such pieces is a creation of their own making which only serves to elevate the bottom line of their bank accounts at the expense of those willing to pay the inflated price.

Personally, I would take a condition 7 or 8 original-issue Order of Glory 1st Class over a condition 9 or 10 duplicate any day.

I agree with Slava1stclass here.

In my own opinion, I would believe that even though the duplicates are rarer, the potential buyers market is smaller as well because people might prefer the originals to the duplicates... less demand, lower price.

Guys,
This topic is simple to figure out. Each of us looks at it differently. Some of us place a higher value on "DUPLICATE' awards while others do not. There is no right or wrong. It's all a matter of personal taste.

:thumbsup :thumbsup Doc
