Lenin's Badge?

In some pictures, Lenin is wearing a badge/pin. Do any of you know what it was?

A very good point, Tal. I haven´t seen Lenin with that pin, but i have seen him with a red ribbon in the same place.

On the same pic, but with a better quality and definition, it terribly looks like a simple button...
Specifically if you consider that you can see what looks like another button of the coat on his right side !!

Am I wrong ?

Ch.

Yep,

it looks like that the mysterious badge seems to be only a button!

A shame, and instructive, but Esteban still has a good point: I, too, recall seeing photos of him with what seems to have been a red ribbon rosette in the same general location, the same idea as worn behind all the early red banner orders. Not that Lenin was awarded any of these orders (?), but we may be seeing the origin of this rosette style of backing to the very non-Imperial unribboned screwback orders?

Maybe Lenin kept that rosette just as the symbol of revolution?

During the revolution and after that a red ribbon rosette or a red piece of textile was used in a quite large scale to show that you support the reds instead the whites. Many "ordinary" people used them for just security reasons, not for a political reasons. People copied that habit from the communists.

I think Jussi-Pekka is right about it being just a rosette...

Here are a few pics:

Yes, fine, but to what degree did this practice become the model for the backing rosettes on the first orders? Isn't this the origin? OK, we may never know, but . . . ?

Ed,

I always thought it was there to protect the clothing from award itself and it's/their edges.
You have to keep in mind that at that time most men only had one jacket where they displayed the awards and the hole tended to rip/cut the jacket so the rosette helped to keep the award in place and prolong the life of the jacket.

Rusty.
