Short, concrete description of his combat feat or merits:

Working as a senior scrub nurse in a dressing platoon of the 214th Medical Battalion, Lieutenant of the Medical Service S.I. Montik showed herself a brave and hard-working nurse during the corps’s period of combat operations aimed at the liberation of the Baltics from December 24 to 30, 1944.
During this time comrade Montik supported the activities of the surgical dressing room with all necessary medical supplies and dressing materials and arranged their sterilization, as a result of which the surgical dressing room managed to process 625 severely wounded men.
Moreover, she personally conducted 20 blood transfusions to wounded men in shock, thereby accelerating the surgical treatment of the severely wounded.

For her tireless care for the wounded, her love for her profession, and her bravery in her duties, she deserves the Medal for Combat Service.

Doubly interesting. A behind-the-lines nursing award and a BIG upgrade. Not sure the original recommendation wasn't the right award, but . . . .

I have a Red Star awarded to a nurse under similar circumstances, that is, originally recommended for a Medal for Combat Service, she was upgraded (?) to a Red Star. . .

As has often been said, the rationale for the upgraded /downgraded remains elusive for us.
But if someone gets an ORB - let say- for saving the life of his commander, why not an ORS or OPWII to have saved the lives of dozens of men through blood transfusions!?!
So, it's a nice thing that some of these nurses were awarded with ORS or OPWII ! :thumbsup

What I find interresting besides the citation, the upgrading, is the place of drafting: "Military Commissariat of the Komintern Raion, city of Moscow".
Was it for non-Soviet citizen ? Does anyone have seen this on his researches?
