Medal "(For Participation In The) Patriotic War 1944-1945".

Hi , I need information of this document. I only know that it has been given only two years and some 200,000 units were delivered, but I'm not sure.
Why the document have two stamps?
Best regards.

I just got one as well, part of a group to one man that I'll show elsewhere.
No stamps in mine and I can't image what the stamps in yours were for.

Hi Ruiz,

In some countries, documents issued by state organizations (i.e diplomas, certificates, booklets, passports and ID cards some time ago) require at least a pair of stamps to make it "official". Sometimes they have to be bought by the recipient him/herself.

I suppose that in this case, assuming there was quite a turmoil in Bulgaria by the time because of the war, there was not too much a chance to make these documents readily available officially and more elaborated, so a simple sheet with a quick signature from the officer in charge and a pair of stamps purchased at any state post office could do.

This is merely "For WWII Participation" or like the Soviet Victory over Germany Medal.

Re: Bulgarian WWII medal Patriotic War 1944-1945

This medal was originally called "For Participation In The Patriotic War 1944-1945" but was changed to "Patriotic War 1944-1945" on 13th December 1950. They were mainly issued 1948-1952 but some (closer to hundreds rather than thousands) were issued before 1948 and some were issued well into the 50's (I believe they stopped dating the documents after 1953). The highest numbered document I have is just under the 195,000 mark. There was also a variation of the ribbon for people who lost their life (lost probably a better word here than gave) during the "Patriotic War" which has a black stripe down the middle following on the imperial traditions. The normal medal on it's own is abundant and all but worthless but they document increases the value a fair bit and the medals with ribbons for fatalities can go for good money although I did purchase one for £8 (around $15 at the time).

Re: Bulgarian WWII medal Patriotic War 1944-1945

I'm sure we ALL like the good deals.... hopefully we all get one from time to time too. The ribbon for this medal was originally planned as a rectangular suspension (somewhat alike the pre 1943 soviet medals) but I nor anyone I have ever spoken to on the subject has ever seen a photograph of one, so it was probably never issued as such and possibly never even made it beyond being a concept. I have for some time considered writing a detailed comparison of Communist Bulgarian and Soviet award systems and designs. Maybe one day!
