All-Union Society For Support Of The Workers' Art Badge

Here's nicely made artistic badge. I think the number on top is 1948 or 1918, but I am not sure.

I have no idea what it was given for. If any of you know more about this badge - it would be great to know its history, statistics, year of issue, etc.

Best regards,

New World

New World,

Wow! I think I am jealous! :) I can see some letters under the mask, but can't read them. Could you please post a scan of them. maybe we can id the badge this way.

Alexei,

I wish I could post a better scan, but I do not own this badge. It was sold on eBay and the scan is from the dealer's description (he's from Romania).

I think he got nice price for the badge - around $140.

New World,

I have found it in one of my references. It's a VSERABIS badge - All Union Society for Support of the Workers' Art. The dates on the badge are 1919-1924. It is made of silver.

Talking about early artistically advanced designs, even though it may not belong in this thread:

Here is a 75-mm (3-inch) dia. table medal with a beautiful layout issued 1919 for the second anniversary of the revolution. The style seems quite advanced for its time and compared with the badges and medals of that time.

To me, it appears that the artist is replacing the figure of Jesus by the working man, expressing the religious hope associated with the revolution that is building the heaven on earth.

While Marx appears the same as on all later pictures, Lenin is hard to recognize.

In general, I do not collect table medals or coins. This medal is tempting.

Here is another beautiful badge, given to those who participated in The Week of Turkmen Culture and arts in Moscow in 1955

Tashkentski,

That's an interesting badge. I've seen an identical one with different text on the back for week of Ukrainian art, also from 1950s.

Tsaikovski

These Badges are suposed to be quite rare.

They were given to the Translators and Jury Members at a Tsaikovski Music Contest.
