Volnonayemnaya looks like freelancer to me, but here is either "volunteer worker" or "contract worker", which means she was not a soldier.

Interesting unit btw. but I think it's acually "gorno-strelkovoy" - "moutain rifle" corps

Here is a 29th August 1945 awarded example to Senior Lieutenant Georgij Lavrent'evich Chitadze by Deputy Chief Of The Head Management Of Works Of The Housing Department Of The Engineering Department Of The Red Army (UNR KEU GIU KA) Guards Lieutenant Colonel Barkov.

The act shows his position as Chief Engineer of the department.

Re: Medal "For Victory Over Germany In The Great Patriotic War 1941-1945".

This example was issued to Tamara Vasil'evna Margishvili by Tbilisi Regional Military Commissariat on 12th May 1946. A little research shows it was authorised by Act of Evacuation Hospital 2820 on 25th September 1945. The act also fills in a lot of blanks on this previously rather simple Medal.

Tamara was a Doctor and Head of the Medical Section of Evacuation Hospital 2820. She was mobilised by Order #424 on the People's Commissariat Of Health on 14th August 1943 and arrived at the Evacuation Hospital in July 1944.

I wouldn't be surprised if a new researched Campaign Medal section pops up soon.

Re: Medal "For Victory Over Germany In The Great Patriotic War 1941-1945".

Another Medical recipient.

Captain Medical Service Aleksandr Issidorovich Perpetija of the 93rd Separate Rifle Brigade.

This one was a little difficult to pinpoint but I found Captain Medical Service Aleksandr Isidorovich Pertija, Commander Of The Medical Platoon, 2nd Separate Rifle Battalion, 93rd Separate Rifle Brigade serving from August 1941.

Re: Medal "For Victory Over Germany In The Great Patriotic War 1941-1945".

Here is a rather late variation that is exceptionally shiny, from all angles. A thin brass kolodka that is similar to many post-Soviet non-Russian Medals.

Robert,

It may seem confusing when your just starting out. The changing design of the award ring process is interesting because it reflects the changing nature in the craftsmanship of these awards.

For example, the variation 1 ring was soldered on. This is somewhat labor intensive. Consequent variations eliminated the soldering process, and as a result the rings were actually part of the medal. These other variations are distinct in their appearance and easily identified. The variation 2 ring has grind marks where the material of the front and back of the ring was ground off. This was to let the ring swing freely when it is attached to the suspension loop. The variation 3 ring was an attempt to make the ring look like the variation 1. The difference is that variation 3 is part of the medal, and not soldered on like variation 1.

BTW, you can see the different ring variations ( well a lot of them anyways ) on the different awards by visiting the main site and looking through the medals links.

Main Site

Regards,

Art
