I just noticed that the watermark in my first image is reversed in the second image.
I wonder if that means anything.

Sometimes, if you can make a photocopy of just one page, the watermarks show up quite clearly on the copy - but you can't just open the book; like Eric's photos, light has to be able to get through to the other side.

Eric, since watermarks by their nature can only go one way through the paper, letters will be reversed if viewed from the other side of a page.:)

Here is a nicely worn example. The recipient has put this Medal (which may have been their only award) on a screwback single suspension which is unusual but there is far less chance of it running away.

Here is a 25th November 1982 awarded example from Chernigov Oblast.

This is a lucky example as some information has been found on the recipient on "the site". It would seem that the native Ukrainian recipient received this when he was 60. Other than receiving an OPW1'85 he also received a Medal "For Combat Merits".

Sergeant Petr Fomich Tsapok was a Section Commander 3rd Battalion 215th Army Reserve Rifle Regiment of the 61st Army. Serving in the Army from 1941, Party Member from 1943 serving on the Brjansk and Belorussian Fronts from July 1943. Wounded August 1943.

"Active participant in the battle for the liberation of the town of Mtsensk (Orel Oblast), Wounded.
For his short stay in the battalion proved himself an energetic, initiative, well prepared commander. Copes with the responsibilities preparing competent replenishment of the Army. As a Komsomol Organiser of the Komsomol Organisation successfully educates his personnel in the spirit of devotion to the nation."

Document for the Medal for Veteran of Labour issued to Aleksei Savel’evich Ivanov on October 27th, 1977 by the Latvian SSR Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD).
