Re: Fake "Medal for Valiant Labor in the Great Patriotic War"

Sergio,

That looks like a standard T2 medal to me. Is it plated or is it solid copper?

Difficult to say, Marc. I do not see stains or scratches showing something with different color below. The ring is greenish at the suspension and looks solid copper. Nevertheless the medal seems to be coated, or painted. I add some scans comparing the medal with a 5 eurocents coin (:idea does it make any sense?)

If it can be of any help, I tried to weight it: 32 grams with the suspension, an I guess about 18g without.

Thanks for your valuable opinion.

Cheers
Sergio

Motherhood medal

Dear forum mebers,

what do you think about this motherhood medal with separately soldered ring.
Are there any fakers who replace the ring part of the medal with a separately soldered ring.

The suspension is wrong, it´s for the brass one.

best regards and thanks
Andreas

Re: Motherhood medal

Beats me if they fake these, but this one looks good to me.

I will say that finding these with the soldered ring or the tongue ring is pretty tough. In my opinion, they are kind of rare.

Re: Motherhood medal

Andreas,

There are minor die differences between the variations. IMO, the soldering of the ring is not fully up to par, but I think that it is genuine.

re: All Other Medals

Hello Everyone,

I have a two part question which will need to be asked in two posts. First, if you look at the main page and go under the medals section and then under medals for veteran of labor to see the different variations, you will find type 2 mentioning the medal has blued front, but the picture is not blued. If you look at type 3 it mentions without blueing but the picture has blueing, are the pictures mixed up? If so then wouldn't the picture I have attached be a type 3?

Now, if the above assumption is true, then where would the medal in the pictures I have attached fall? It has no dark background like the previous photographed medal, and no blueing, and it is hard to see, but the picture of the ring has the LMD mint mark.

The pictures for the types 2 and 3 match the descriptions - type 2 has blueing (aka artificial patina), and the type 3 does not. It might look otherwise because of the camera angle, which was probably done to cut back on glare.

I'd say you have a type 3. Yours seems to have a stipple pattern to dull the recessed parts of the medal.

re: All Other Medals

Hello ibaya,

Thanks for the reply. I thought that's what I had but since I could not find anything similar on the sites I visit and the books I have didn't give me much more to go on, I thought I would ask everyone to see what the forums thoughts were on it.

Thanks again

David

re: All Other Medals

Guys,

Just a friendly reminder that this section of the forum is for discussing fakes or suspicious pieces, not variations.
