Serial number, "No", and star on obverse...

My take: the serial number is bad unless the suspension was replaced circa '43; the "No" looks engraved instead of struck; the red star on the obverse should touch the border on a serial numbered version of this medal. I'm comparing this with several unnumbered medals I have and one numbered medal 39,xxx.

Guys,

I am just doing some catching up reading on the forum. I might only add that on a serial numbered variation the tip of the star should be touching the rim.

I bought this last year from 'XXXXX': I was promised a certificate of authenticity, it was never forthcoming: I've never been 100% happy, but I'll let you guys tell me if I'm wrong. The pics are straight from his site, as mine are locked away with the rest of my collection. Cost around 11.95 gbp, aluminium type metal with no S/N. Told it was a very late issue piece, I bought an order of Honour and Red banner from him that I'm sure are pukka, but these seemed to new and shiny to me. :thumbsdown:thumbsup????

Tom,

That medal should be made of silver, and have a struck ring.

Can't remeber it being silver, however it is not with me at the moment so can't be sure. If memory serves, it is aluminium/alloy, and not of great quality, excuse given was "Russian stuff is badly made, what do you expect!", hmmmmm not sure on that one, lol.

ATB,
Tom

Tom,

When you have a chance please post some better scans of the medallion, obverse and reverse.

Went the bank Saturday afternoon (they stayed a bit late for me to nip in), It seems heavier than I remember, however it still looks off to me at least: Let me know if the pics arn't good enough and I'll do some more.

Tom

Tom,

It looks strange to me. The ring should be struck with the medal, and the enamel is rather crude and off color. If you can post hi-res scans of the front and back of the medalion without the suspension, it would help.
