GDR Regulations

This is maybe not the most popular collecting area on our forum but nevertheless some members might find this link interesting.
It is the rules and regulations for the wearing of State GDR Orders and Medals from 1978 including a list of precedence and where the Orders and medals are to be worn.

Eddie,
thank you for this link. I do not collect GDR but used to visit there often when my father was still living. On special occasions, he used to wear one medal only of several he had received as teacher. Now I see that he was following regulations: "when recipient of several medals, wearing the highest medal only is premissible". He had also correctly picked the highest one, No. 84 of the regulation listing, and not the No. 86 he had also been awarded.

Here is the grouping of all the awards he received during the four regimes he lived in (Kaiserreich, Weimar democracy, Hitler era, GDR).

Dietrich,
Glad to be able to help ;)
I'm not a collector either but I think Sebastian is interested in GDR awards.
I notice the III Reich items in your fathers awards are with the swastika and not the 1957 regulation type.

Eddie,
the GDR did not allow any WWII awards, not the 1957-type or the original.

All WWII awards of my father were lost somewhere east of the Oder where he discarded them in February 1945 just prior to surrendering to the Soviets. I purchased the replacements on ebay a few years ago for the display. Only the GDR awards are the actual pieces awarded to him, and only they are backed by documents in my possession. I have just photographs of my father in uniform wearing the WWII awards.

Dietrich,
Thanks for the expanation.
It seems logical that they did not allow them to be worn although I wasn't certain about the 57 regulations in the DDR.

Eddie.
Well, techically 1957 awards were issued by Federal Republic to replace WWII period awards for de-nazification purposes.

I don't see how it would be possible to wear Capitalist awards in Communist German Democratic Republic.
