Hungarian Group
Hello all - I was asked to post this grouping that belonged to a senior Hungrian officer. All the medals and award documents were presented to the same officer from the mid 1950s through the mid 1970s.
For the moment I am not able to provide any close ups of the medals or documents other than what I have posted from the overview photographs, because I do not have an operational digital camera, sorry. So I hope what I have posted is useful for any ongoing discussion. |

Desantnik - As you know I have been collecting East German MfS groupings for years, so to add this grouping very much rounds out my overall collection and adds a different historical aspect to it. Thanks Desantnik for your comments.

Wanderful group! What is the recipient's name?
If I remember correctly, there was a similar group offered by a well-known on-line dealer not too long ago. |

Re: Hungarian medal and document grouping
Wow! Ralph, you were right, I had not seen this post. That sort of cross-the-borders set is exactly the type of story I would love to sort out. In fact, it's the kind of set that got me started on the web page I've forgotten to update because it was getting mired down in the state security "shell game" of WWII. This makes me want to just give a brief introduction and farewell to SMERSH so I can get on to the Cold War and all its bizarre alliances and closed-door dealings. As Paul pointed out above, this guy was well-traveled and I would guess his biography (what could be found of it) would read better than most Ian Fleming novels (and that's a generalization because I've never read Fleming, but you get the idea).

Re: Hungarian medal and document grouping
You've never read Chitty Chitty Bang Bang?!?!
On the point of Fleming (Who was Naval Intelligence Royal Naval Reserve), those Naval Intelligence books containing Top Secret Intelligence are often just as fictional as the novels he wrote but a far more dull read - amusing never the less. When it comes to "travelling" advisers it is always interesting to obtain the travel permits and passports of those crossing borders. I will be presenting some researched awards to "wandering specialists" in 2014 with a little luck. One of which spent some time in Hungary, although not awarded by them. Another participated in the founding of the NVA of the DDR.

CtahhR - thanks for your post, where will your research be presented or published in 2014? |
