Israeli Awards For Former Soviet Veterans.

Established in 1967. Awarded to Israeli citizens who fought against the Nazis in one of the Allies armed forces, as a partisan, or as an underground movement member. Among others, this has been awarded to veterans of the Soviet armed forces for service in the Great Patriotic War who have emigrated to Israel in recent decades.

The document's cover reads:

STATE OF ISRAEL

MINISTRY OF DEFENCE

This ribbon is special – it is the only Israeli ribbon that has been converted to a medal. No other ribbon in the IDF or state of Israel has a medal also, except the three decorations of the IDF, and the police decorations.

If someone got a group of a Jewish veteran, it is not complete without this medal.
BTW, the medal is very hard to get, and not available in stores, only the MOD issued those. But the ribbon is R2 or so, and could be easily obtained. Remember that many veterans awarded with the ribbon only, since the medal was introduced in 2000, and the ribbon in 1967.

55 Years Victory medal

Tal,

Thanks, it’s great and very interesting medal.
I did not see it before.
One month ago I also bought a very interesting Israeli medal with document “Jewish fighters in war with nazi. 55 years Victory in WW2."

I will also try to place a picture soon. I am having some technical problems with sizing the scans and placing them on the Forum

Tal, where there any awards for veterans for 60 years Victory in WW2 in Israel?

Eric.

Israeli medal for the 60th Ann. of GPW

Note the ribbon - it is the same design as the official medal, but this medal is issued by the veterans organizations - it is NOT official Israeli medal.

Yad Vashem Medal "Righteous Among The Nations"

The Holocaust, was the genocide of approximately six million European Jews during World War II, a program of systematic state-sponsored murder by Nazi Germany, led by Adolph Hitler, throughout Nazi-occupied territory.
When Yad Vashem, the Holocaust Martyrs' and Heroes' Remembrance Authority, was established in 1953 by the Knesset, one of its tasks was to commemorate the "Righteous among the Nations".
Righteous among the is an honorific used by the State of Israel to describe non-Jews who risked their lives during the Holocaust to save Jews from extermination by the Nazis.
As of 1 January 2011, 23,788 men and women from 45 countries have been recognized as Righteous among the Nations, representing over 10,000 authenticated rescue stories.
Here is one award (medal) with Gramota and the story of Righteous among the Nations.

The Story
Olga Boyeva and her twin daughters, Lyubov and Nadezhda, were living in Kharkov. Among their friends was Mariya Kosaya, a young Jewish woman. The Boyevs took an interest in her welfare following her mother's death in 1937.
During the first days of the German occupation, Mariya's father, Samuil Kosoy, was caught in a round-up and hung together with other hostages. In December 1941, the Germans issued an order for all Jews to move into the newly established ghetto on the territory of the abandoned tractor plant in the city suburbs. The 15-year-olds Lyubov and Nadezhda accompanied Mariya on her way to the ghetto and during the following week supplied her with food. On December 19, Mariya decided to flee. Leaving the ghetto was not complicated compared to finding a safe shelter in the city. Announcements were everywhere, threatening the death penalty for those Jews who would be found outside the ghetto and for their helpers as well. Still the Boyevs did not hesitate to hide and protect Mariya Kosaya for the following two months. By then, all the Jewish population of Kharkov and the surrounding towns and villages had been annihilated.
At the end of February 1942, Mariya Kosaya decided to part with her rescuers. Her aim was to cross the front line and reunite with the Soviets. Olga Boyeva supplied Mariya with some of her personal belongings, which Mariya could exchange for food en route. She wandered the roads of Ukraine for a whole year. In February 1943, she was liberated by the Red Army in one of the border villages in Dnepropetrovsk District. In the wake of the fighting forces, Mariya retuned to Kharkov. She met with the Boyevs briefly and heard from them that Nadezhda had been sent to Germany as forced labor. A few days passed and in March 1943 the Germans reoccupied the city. Once again Mariya set out eastward and again succeeded in crossing the front lines.
After the war, Mariya Kosaya resettled in Kharkov, married and raised a son. For her entire life she maintained a warm relationship with her wartime rescuers.
On January 21, 2007, Yad Vashem recognized Olga Boyeva and her daughters Lyubov and Nadezhda as Righteous among the Nations.
