Very interesting, they deserve the Orders section

Mikoyan,
IMHO, I like more as they are, without being repaired.

Re: Damaged, Repair, Clean, Preserve Soviet Awards.

I bought order of Red Banner without its ribbon. I think it is not bad about this 'Repair'.

Anyone have knowhow to place a new ribbon on suspension perfectly like original?
I've tried before myself, but it was not good in the end. Ribbon loosed and wrinkled.

A Red Banner award that is 30-60 years old should have old ribbon.
I may have one spare if interested

Re: Glory.

I have heard that nowadays some guys destroy Soviet awards this way to pretend an "interestig story" behind. But nevertheless it is worth a research I think. I have a similar looking item, which was found with shrapnel damage too. (see image)

Re: Damaged, Repair, Clean, Preserve Soviet Awards.

I have been thinking about some "naked" early, pre-5 sided kolodki Medals for some time. Formerly featuring the rectangular hanger but currently with no suspension at all. If an early award was "updated" by the recipient I leave it alone but I've been considering adding reproduction (high quality but not pretending to be original by any means) Kolodki to the currently naked Medals for display purposes.

I was wondering if any other forum members have had the nakedness issue and how they combated it.

The reproduction rectangular suspensions (with screwplate) are £5 each.

Cutting or Removing Badge Screws/Bolts

My apologies if I missed a thread or post, but I was unable to find any threads or posts indicating information on the trimming of overly long threaded posts for Soviet badges. I have noticed the stock/unissued badges tend to have longer than 10mm length that would damage a dress shirt with regular wear in uniform, so was it common to have then cut down to a flush fit with the screw-back at the length set at installation of the uniform? Or were they left at issued length and the resulting damage to the uniform shirt underneath just stoically endured and a replacement purchased when a hole was inevitably worn through them from the constant wear? Thanks.

Re: Damaged, Repair, Clean, Preserve Soviet Awards And Documents.

It all depended on the recipient's taste. Some got cut off all together, some completely untouched.

Here is a ground dug example of an award - Red Star,0968393,Section Instructor,Universal Military Training,Latvian SSR - It was unearthed in Latvia.
