Tanker service from '87 - '89 in Sverdlovsk, Ural Military District. Bearer possibly from Tashkent, UzSSR or maybe deployed there in support of operations in Afghanistan(?).

Unknown patch, perhaps actual unit one. Interestingly the eagle head resembles the U.S. 101 Airborne Division patch:

Another interesting feature is the "spetsnaz" (special forces) is blotted out in red.

I thought this patch was unique, but saw another on the web or elsewhere so this may have been issue. My example was worn as it has two horizontal Velcro patches for wear on the shoulder sleeve.

Here's a great example of a dembel in a unique camouflage situation.

He's from the breakaway Moldovan republic of Pridnistrovie, or Transnistria, and continuing the Soviet tradition some 20+ years after the fact.
