Laureate Of The Prize "T. G. Shevchenko".
This award was presented on 10 May 1992 by Ukraine's President Leonid Kravchuk to the Ukrainian Bandurist Chorus at a banquet held in the president's honor in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The back of the medal reads: Laureate of the T. H. Shevchenko Ukrainian S.S.R.* State Prize No 377 The Document for Taras Shevchenko Ukrainian State Prize. The certificate reads: By decree of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine on 27 February 1992, the T. Shevchenko Ukrainian State Prize is awarded to The Ukrainian Bandurist Chorus of Detroit, USA (artistic directors H. Kytasty, died 1984, and W. Kolesnyk) -- for the popularization of Ukraine's musical heritage. Chairman, Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, Committee on the T. Shevchenko Ukrainian State Prizes {signed} O. Honchar Learned Secretary, Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, Committee on the T. Shevchenko Ukrainian State Prizes {signed} D. Oleksandrenko No 377 {The seal reads:} Council of Ministers of the Ukrainian S.S.R*, Committee on the T. H. Shevchenko Ukrainian S.S.R.* State Prizes for literature, journalism, arts, and architecture *) Ukraine declared its independence from the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics on 24 August 1991. At the time this award was issued many Soviet-era items, including medals and seals such as these, were still in use. These look like transitional awards - they still used Urkainian SSR stamp. The medal is the same as from the Soviet times - just blue-red ribbon was repleced with yellow-blue to reflect colors of the new Ukrainian banner. The Prize was awarded shortly after the Ukraine became independent (August 1991) and Soviet Union ceased to exist (December 1991). William |

William,
Do you have the scan of the reverse? I was wondering if the # on the medal is the same as the citation. Rusty.
