Cuban Insignia.
These probably belonged to a Soviet officer whose ribbon bars I got. Standard service tunic type. Note that there IS a front and a back to Cuban general boards shown here because of the Soviet 4-sided insignia-- the laurel half of the wreath points forward:

These are for the "traditional" Eisenhower era U.S. Army style green fatigues, and slip on over plain epaulettes on the shirt: there is no tongue as with Soviet shirt boards, only a transverse loop at each end of the boards to slide under the permanent shirt straps. The buttons are the usual nasty metallic flashed plastic "Staybrite" material, and are WIRED down so strongly I haven't tried wriggling them around for any markings.

All date from the late 1980s, assuming they do indeed go with three sets of ribbons bars festooned with semi-identified Cuban ribbons to a ?? Soviet Border Guards "advisor."
This removable cap band has the Soviet style M1969 generals' wreath--all the bullion on these is quite good-- and a two piece brass Mystery Cockade for ? procurators office? ? state security? ? border guards? ? police? ??? |

Looks like the soviet military justice insignia.

It sure does, although it seems the same inverted double swords behind the shield was almost as frequent a Soviet MVD emblem as the single sword straight up and down. Law/law enforcement seems most likely.
My only clue on this is that the capband came with the shoulder boards, and appear to have all belonged to a Soviet Border Guards general with multiple Cuban awards. Of course, I suppose it could be Afghan Finance Police or who knows what else! That's part of the fun and challenge of "unknown collecting territory." |
