General parade-walking out uniform

Gentlemen,

I have finally acquired a general´s tunic. Now, there are some things that I´d like to know.
First, as you can see the bullion leaves and stars have become very very dark. Is there any chance to restore their shine with something?
Second, there is no embroidery on the cuffs. Is this because of the manufacturing period?
Third. It seems this general had almost no action at all or the ribbon bar is not original to the tunic(altough he was awarded the Sino-soviet friendship medal and the cloth backing matches the tunic´s). Assuming the first, any ideas of his work? Maybe as an advisor duirng the last years of friendship between both countries?

Thanks,
Esteban

embroidery

Do NOT try to clean the embroidery! No better way to ruin a tunics value. The 'patina' is a good sign.

I like the ribbon bar; its original and though not a heavy duty guy, he saw combat and the final ribbon is great.

Nice tunic!

Esteban,

That's a nice jacket you got there, pre-1964. Congratulations!

As Doug said, DON'T try to clean the embroideries. Metal oxydizes, this is a sign of age.

For me I would not touch the lapel bullion. The patina is just great and, to me, it would be a shame to clean it up. But since I do not own this tunic good luck to you on what you want to do. Just my thoughts. Clete

Clete, don´t worry. I´ll keep the patina. :)

It would be good to wonder why he got the sino-soviet medal. I especially like when you speculate posibilities; it´s very interesting to hear them.

Very nice tunic indeed!

A hat and a pair of pants, and you have the set!

About Sino-Soviet Friendship medal, a guess would be that he was a military advisor, military attaché, assigned to a unit on the border, friend with Mao or any of the high ranking gentlemen in Beijing... during the early years of the Chinese peoples republic.

Good news, Esteban good news indeed on keeping that patina!

I think Tretov is correct on how he got the Friendship medal. I was thinking a Far East Command staff officer who had contact with the Chinese before the Sino-Soviet split. Pretty decent rack of ribbons in general.
