BCXB
Hi!
I spotted this medal on an auction site. Anyone know what it was given for and when? Thanks Stah |

Re: What's this?
Hi Stah,
The medal has BCXB (VSKhV) on the obverse and this stands for the All-Union Agricultural Exhibition (Vsesoyuznaya Selsko-Khozyaystvennaya Vystavka) 1939-1940 & 1954 -1959). The reverse says "To young participant in the All-Union Agricultural Exhibition". The medal looks of modern manufacture, and does not seen to have the crisp design of the older medals. Thus, I doubt it is original to when the exhibitions occured. There are many collectors of VSkhV and VDNKh (its successor) material including myself. I will be interested to hear what they think. Interesting! I'd be interested in hearing more too. But it's true what you said about the medal: the quality does seem crappy, at least on the obverse.

Re: What's this?
Stah,
I believe that it is an original medal from the mid to late 1950's. Marc |

Re: What's this?
Stah,
Do you have a picture of the suspension? The modern version of the exhibition does have a "young participants" medal with a light blue ribbon. So I guess it is possible that this era also had a similar medal. Lapa, If this one is real why do you think the quality is so poor compared to the other medals of the same period? The relief of the designs on the gold, silver and bronze medals is very sharp whereas to use Stah's expression this medal looks cheap and "crappy". Simon |

Re: What's this?
Yeah, here's a pic. The ribbon is pretty soiled, but I don't think it was ever light blue. Looks pretty well dark green to me. This medal has too many weird things about it; I think I'll pass on bidding for it.

Re: What's this?
Stah,
After seeing the suspension I wouldn't bid on it either. The suspension looks OK to me - is similar/the same as the ones for participation and bronze awards of that era (pre-VDNKh). The difference in condition of the medal and suspension worries me - makes me think it might be a mix-n-match job. Was this on E? - if so I missed it. Simon |

Re: What's this?
No, it's on a Finnish auction site. Currently going at 6 euros, that's about 8 dollars.

Re: What's this?
Guys,
From the top of my head, the ribbon should be dark blue I believe, although I would not bet my last Order of Victory on that :) Marc |
