Commemorative Badge "J. A. Gagarin Centre For Cosmonaut Training".

I've had this since 1992? But what is it for...

I wish I could submit a bigger pix..

It looks like a RSFSR Yuri Gagarin state prize award. why? The ribbon has the same color than the flag of the RSFSR did use in the Soviet Union. And, as I could see on the little pic, the guy in the medal was very similar to Yuri Gagarin....

I got this medal in Berlin, it was the only one I had ever seen there. It was being sold with a bunch of junk at a flea market. I paid a couple of dollars for it. As far as construction, it is a very well made piece. I'm sure it is 100% legit, just don't know what it is for.

Gunnet,

There seems to be writting around the rim of the reverse. If you can't post a bgger image can you try to transliterate the writting or otherwise copy it in some way and someone may be able to ID it.

Translation

Russian:
Center podgotovki kosmonavtov imeni Y. A. Gagarina /1984/

English:
Y. A. Gagarin Center for Cosmonaut Training

Hope this helps...

Thats great news... But what does this mean? Did they hand out this medal to all who completed training in 84 or did they just hand them out to Joe Public one day. Well, on the bright side there can't be to many of them out there. I'm wondering if there are 1984, 85, etc.
