Two more images.

Plus some goodies from earlier in his career that were in an interior pocket.

What era was the one you missed, pre 1945?

VERY pre-1945.

Still hard to put dates, but research is underway in archives and museums to try tighten things up.

Re: A very '60s/'70s major general

To revive the thread, I just found these photos for sale on E.
Look at the absolute lack of any precedence order on Chojbalsan´s awards and his massive marshal star; and the "mongolian-but-yet-soviet" flight mechanic.

Re: A very '60s/'70s major general

Every picture of him in the Battushig book (and there are many) shows him wearing his awards in seemingly whatever order struck his fancy at the time (though he tends to keep the Lenins first and the Mongolian "Hero" stars just above them).

Re: A very '60s/'70s major general

Choibalsan pretty much did things "his way". This applied to awards too, though there is a certain logic to what he did, given what he had and the style of uniform he wears in the familiar picture. Mixing Mongolian and Soviet mounting styles was always a challenge (as it was for the Soviets as well. Look as the hash that Zhukov made of any logical order or wearing!)

The other fellow seems to follow pretty standard Mongolian wearing practice.

I liked this other picture because he wears only soviet awards at the right.
He´s almost conpletely part of Soviet AF personnel rather than his own country´s!
Oh, and his civilian tie.
