Slap together MVD overcoat & hat?
I see this all the time. An overcoat/great coat with the lapel tabs fitting flush with the stitching rather than all the way to the end of the lapel like in the uniform manual prinited in 1988 by the Soviet Military. So which is it?
Now about this coat. The first picture is just terrible, I know. But the second one shows the "true colors" of both the hat and the coat. In my limited experience with uniforms, these would not be worn together. Moreover, it doesn't even look like an MVD hat. It looks more like army to me. The coat's shoulder boards are MVD, but what about the coat itself? It looks like most of the light-grey parade coats, but in the bad lighting it appears to have a bluish tint to it. If that's the case, I want one.:D Thanks, Phillip

Re: Slap together MVD overcoat & hat?
Hi Phil,
I´ve seen several of these as well. The cap colors look maroon to me though. My winter coat has the same bluish look and is exactly the same as the one you show. Collar tabs were also out of place, so I resew them according to regulations. And altough the cap/coat combo are not in regulations (I, at least, have not seen a book with it), I do have seen it used both by officers and generals. Watch any parade video on youtube and you´ll see it; no winter hats...

Re: Slap together MVD overcoat & hat?
Howdy Esteban,
I guess my real question is what is strict regulation regarding the lapel/collar tabs? Are they supposed to be like the ones in post #1 or are they supposed to extend down to the edge of the lapel like in the drawings in the Soviet military regulations book? They look better the way they are in the picture above (in my opinion), but I have seen them both ways. Phillip
