Does anyone know what this medal is? The whole photo is of a HSU with lots of other medals/orders. I couldn't make the photo more clear than it is. For some reason the photographer have made his face more sharp than his medals....

Any ideas?

Aha!

Once again, things I know are relevant:

Egypt, Nuut al-Waagib al-‘Askarii (Medal of Military Duty)

Awarded for faithful and courageous performance of non-combattant duty to members of the armed forces, regardless of rank. This includes potential awards to cadets at service academies. Can be awarded posthumously and to foreigners.

It was a reshaping of the pre-revolutionary Medal for Devotion to Duty, reformulated on 9 July 1953 and revised by ??? of 1959 and by Law No. 6 of 1973. Awarded in three classes (silver-gilt, silver, and bronze) and with two different reverse legands (for “Al-Jamhuriya al-‘Arabiya al-Matahada” or “United Arab Republic”, 1959-71 -- actually altered in 1973?).

See my http://faculty.winthrop.edu/haynese/medals/egypt.html -- #29 -- and http://faculty.winthrop.edu/haynese/...egyptribs.html -- #6 (where there are illustrations).

That's it! Big thanks Ed! Looks like the Egyptians have large size medals, compared to the soviet ones.

Here is the rest of the photo. The man is F.S Djatchenko, picture taken in 1980. Unfortunatlly I have only two photos of him and no awards, but they are still nice. I wonder what he got the Egyptian medal for...
