Armed Forces Championship Badge
Gentlemen,
Any idea what this is? Soviet? Real or fantasy piece? Thanks, Dolf |

Not in Borisov's book. Maybe in Avers 2?

I don't think it's a fantasy piece. At least, it's not a fantasy style. I don't know about the details of your piece, but at least I have seen the style before.
I believe this is an Armed Forces Championship badge for placing in an all-military competition. You can see the style in the 1990 Domank book on military badges, illustrations 103-105. It appears as if the colors are red-1st place, blue-second, green-third. I have attached an image of one of my badges. The date in the small rhomb is 1966. It is, obviously, a green badge but says at the bottom "II Mecto", or second place. That seems to contradict what the book says it should be, a third place badge. I'm going to guess that yours is an All-Army rather than an All-Military competition badge. Nice first place badge. Just my two cents. Chuck Last edited by Chuck In Oregon; 04-30-2005 at 11:42 AM. Chuck,
So the one I posted could it be a 1st place for an All-Army shooting (because of the guns) competition? How much would it be a fair price for this piece? Thanks again, Dolf |

Yes, at least that's what I think it is, 1st Place in an All-Army shooting competition. The crossed rifles emblem is reminiscent of a Tsarist marksmanship badge.
I have been away for a long time and I am way out of touch with what people are paying in the US/Western Europe for Soviet badges. This is a pretty darn nice badge and, FWIW, it fits in well with my collection of shooting badges. In Georgia I would have expected to pay something like $10-15, tops. I suppose up to triple that in the western market, but that is strictly a SWAG. Care to share how you came across such an interesting piece? Chuck |

Chuck,
Thanks a lot for all the great info. This piece is not mine, in fact it's offered for sale right now in a well known auction site. Starting bid: $49.99 One of the reasons I asked about this Badge is because it looks almost new, that's why I thought that it could be a fantasy piece rather than an original Soviet piece. Thanks again, Dolf Quote:
