Military Merit Order Of The GDR.

The military order of merit of the German Democratic Republic/Militärische Verdienstorden der Deutschen Demokratischen Republik was a State award of the German Democratic Republic (GDR), which was instituted by the Council of Ministers of the GDR in 1982 by its Chairman Willi Stoph.
The award was for outstanding achievements in the consolidation of friendly relations and the further development of cooperation between the national people's Army and the armies or armed forces of other countries. The term brother States were omitted in the statutes of the Foundation. The medal itself was awarded with a certificate signed by the Minister of national defence:
This award was not for nationals in the NVA, but intended only for nationals of other State forces or their civilians.
It was awarded in three classes, Bronze,Silver and Gold.

Shown below is the MVO in Gold.

Re: Military Merit Order Of The GDR.

Taz - Do you know if this medal was to replace the Brotherhood in Arms medal when it was presented to other WP persons? Or was it an additional medal to be presented to WP persons?

Thanks for the thread...:thumbsup

It was an additional Order, classed higher than the Brotherhood in Arms Medal, this award wasn't awarded to the NVA, the Brotherhood in Arms Medal could be, so also different award critaria.

Regards Eddie.
