Medal "For Participation In The Popular Uprising 1923".

This award was established on June 15, 1948, by decree of the Grand National Assembly, agreed to grant to those participants of the uprising of June and September 1923. These surveys were poorly organized by the Soviet Union and the Bulgarian communists, in an attempt to repeat the 1917 October Revolution in Bulgarian lands. Ended up as a bloodbath.

The medal is circular with a diameter of 23 mm and made of white silver, with a triangular band of red-wine color stripe on either side of orange. The design is the work of Kiril Todorov and conducted by the jewelers of the Bulgarian Mint, with just one roll of 10,040 units . In the front of the medal is a group of insurgents, waving a flag and a laurel branch around them with the inscription: "Septemvri 1923 Godina". In the back of the coin, the figures of Vassil Kolarov and G. Dimitrov, the organizers of the uprising, next to a farmer and a workman and the inscription in three lines:"23 . IX.1923 "," Podgotvi "," 9.IX.1944 "

This medal "For Participation In The September Uprising 1923" was awarded in two different versions in Bronze and Silver for different levels of participation in this particular uprising on it's 25th Anniversary. The Bronze medal is less common than the silver variation. It originally had it's own document which were used up to the mid 60's. This is one of the few Bulgarian People's Republic's posthumous awards too. There are also many other awards out there for celebrating and participating in other uprisings within Bulgaria. There have been dozens of uprisings. coups and counter coups in Bulgaria's short history and from April 1876 to 9th September 1944 there were lots of events which occurred that the People's Republic celebrated. 100th Anniversary of the "reunification" of Bulgaria in 1985, The Radomir uprisings and their liberation from the Ottoman Empire to name but a few. The "For Participation In The Anti-Fascist Struggle" will have covered participants as a socialist/communist in other uprisings etc. in the first half of the 20th century. An extraordinarily complicated tale.
There was of course also a Medal "50th Anniversary Of The September People's Uprising" founded 10th August 1973.

Here is a document from my collection for a Silver Medal (Although it does not state) for Docho Radev Dochev from Jambol, awarded 21st September 1963 (40th Anniversary) by which time Dochev had died and this is a posthumous awarding.

Here is the document for the Medal whilst named "For Participation In The September Uprising 1923" #17499 awarded to P'rvan Stanev Komoschichanov on 5th August 1949. Unfortunately no more information on this recipient can be found at this time.
