Re: Captain Medical Service Ashur Bajbulovich Amanov, Combat Doctor.

Patriotic War II #53795 (Within the first 0.8% awarded).

The hammer and sickle nearly got put in the wrong place and the mirror back has an extra ray pointing at a different angle to any of the rays on the front which unfortunately has not shown up in this photograph.
Original Silver plate.

From 7th October-December 1943 the unit was participating in the expansion of the bridgehead south-east of Kremenchuk after driving 120km in from Har'kov in August.

Re: Captain Medical Service Ashur Bajbulovich Amanov, Combat Doctor.

Here's a little more insight into the locations named in the Red Star citation.

The First Rzhev–Sychevka Offensive Operation was in full swing 15th to 18th August 1942. The town on Zhizdra on the River Zhizdra was not successfully liberated until August the following year, by which time the settlement had been completely destroyed, the only living thing "liberated" being a cat.

The dates 19th November to 5th December 1942 coincide with Operation Mars, the 31st Army stalled somewhere around Little Kropotov, with Little and Greater Kropotov now being merged into a single settlement after the destruction there.

Here is the location of Zhizdra as well as the cat that was finally liberated there in August 1943.

Here is the location of Little Kropotov and a diagram of the failed Operation Mars offensive. The location coincides with the full extent of the bulge forced in the German defences by the 31st Army.
