Eric,

The quality of the images is excellent. I'd play with lighting technique more. Specifically, creating less specular and more diffuse lighting maybe by either hanging a white sheet in between the sun and the subject, or anything that will not creat "hot spots" of light on your subject. I'd say the first has the best lighting, but needs to be brighter.

I'm experimenting with camera settings, lighting and image sizing.

Image 2 and 3 were resized to 1000 pixels in width which exceeds the forum's 800 pix guidelines. I think that the height being less than 600 pix makes them uploadable. I'm going on the assumption now that maximum uploadable pixels are 1600 when adding width plus height of image.

Specular's a word I don't know, but I understand where you're coming from.

Indeed, all 3 were taken outdoors. The first was taken in the shade of a couple o' palm trees. The second in direct sunlight which creates those "hotspots" to which you refer. Those bug me, too. I tried to let less light in the lens when in the sun, and more when in shade but I still haven't gotten the best mix yet.

Alexei told me how to take un-blurry pictures outside. I like to try and make the images as large as possible. Art, when I make the images so big (say, 1200 x 500 pix) but still at 50kb does it use up any more server space (or whatever the technical term is) than say the tiny images we cut and paste from the E place?

There's a thread on the WAPF where those with advanced camera skills can show off their photography. While my skills are hardly considered even mediocre I thought I'd try and start a thread where we can try to show off our shots.

My first, for today is just a random collection of.....stuff.

The second image was taken with the "sepia" option. I kinda like it.

Not much Photoshop in this one, just a composition made two years ago; I thought it would suit the season well.

Great examples Bryan! Thanks for getting this thread back on track.

More photo-phooling around on a lazy Saturday whilst listening to the new Judas Priest album.

Re: Artistic photos

I found that simply using the base of a handy lamp as a background, produced an interesting effect.

Marc,
I will be glad to, but I'm afraid that Eric will not be happy with me for going off topic (Photography).

First let me say that I do not believe this item to be authentic. I have had it for some time and I think it was converted from a suspension type, although I cannot see the evidence of that. One day when sending Alexei some other work for which he can actually bill and produce income for himself, I will throw this one in.

The reason that I believe it to be bad, is the serial number. The three to the right, are masterfully done, the same as many others which I have. The first two digits on the left, which would have had to be changed to place it in the proper range, look like they were done by a monkey with an engraving tool.

Steve

I think you will agree
