Hi guys,
*The simple silver aiguillette was worn by NCO/EM soviet army, navy, air force,BBMVD,PV on parade occasion (summer uniform and winter greatcoat) It is worn as well by NCO/EM from honor guard detachments (Air Force,Army,Navy). *The simple golden aiguillette is worn by officers on parade occasions (summer uniform & winter great coat) by the KGB honor guard at the Lenin Mausoleum and by the honor guard detechment in Berlin. *The double golden aiguillette is worn by officers from the honor guard detachments. *The dembel aiguillette was of course worn by NCO/EM undergoing demobilization. The wear of the aiguillette was officalised in a decree beginning of 1972. |

:) Of course, these are flights of fancy fabricated by the dembels for their glorious homecomings, so it cannot be considered an authorized uniform accessory Curtain/flag tassles seldom are. :)

OK, I recently bought this aiguillete that was described as a russian army shoulder cord. Since it has the white, blue, and red of the Russian Federation tricolor, could it be actual Russian Army issue, or just a dembel? It looks so nicely done... P.S., I really didnt care what it was, it was $2 and I had bought some other stuff from the guy an am gonna pick it up in a few days.

It's a Dembel item....

Hence the mix of soviet & russian items. The branch on the collar tabs are specific to this unit and are crossed rifles...I 'll post some pics of my jacket later on... Last edited by CtahhR; 04-17-2014 at 08:02 AM. |

Most likely dembel. Besides the overuse of the spiral embellishments, the missing metal "needles" at the end of the cords make me doubt they are anything near official. Maybe a post-Soviet youth movement?

Well, I seen to be leaning towards dembel now also. After some light research, it seems this this tradition has carried on into the Russian Federation... Note that the sailor also chose to remove his collar for some reason...

Well, I have heard that removal of collar was quite a common practise among sailor. When I asked my frien - a former sailor for a reason, he answered: "Well, those collars just look gay." Not politicaly-correct, nor very polite, but but definately a clear explaination...

Well, that explains it. BTW, did VMF sailors ever "pop" their collars (turn it upwards) That probably looks less "gay" (or possibly more). See picture:
