From the first days of the Patriotic War has taken part in routing the Fascist invaders in the position of Squadron Adjutant.
Until 1944 participant in Kalinin, South-West and South Fronts. During this period has proved himself to be a indefatigable, energetic, accurate worker; regardless of time uninterruptedly worked in the squadron. Combat documentation issued exemplary and in time.

From 6-6-44 participant of Leningrad Front in the breakthrough of heavily fortified enemy defences of the Karelian Isthmus and the liberation of Vyborg. This important operation entrusted by the Supreme High Command, requiring high stresses to ensure smooth combat work of the squadron and the whole regiment, Comrade Omel'chenko performed excellently. The Squadron, where the Adjutant Captain Omel'chenko was, produced 69 successful combat missions.
Despite the tensions of combat work and placement difficulties of personnel, military documents were presented timely and accurately executed, personnel provided, thanks to the care of Captain Omel'chenko, good comfort.
For the short stay with 3rd Belorussian Front the squadron had 10 successful sorties.
For excellent support of combat work of the Squadron and exemplary completion of military documentation has 6 congratulations from the commanders of the regiment and division.
For selfless work for ensuring the combat work of the squadron in the battle with German invaders is worthy of the presentation of the award

Here is the area the missions were focused upon.

Lieutenant Colonel Bugaj wasn't as lucky and was killed in October 1944.

The 132nd ended up being the 132nd Heavy Bomber "Berlin" Orders Kutuzov III And Aleksandr Nevskij Aviation Regiment and existed until 1997.
