Hi
I like Skrabichewsky's sub division, but I disagree on the need to include table medals. Wat's next? Flags? Busts? The USSR has left us with HUGE amount of collectibles, but I suggest we steek to the point - Medal, AND badges. About hat symbols, patches etc. - we already have a seperate room for them in the 'uniforms..." section. Regarding Veteran badges - I think it will not be a good idea. There are SO MANY of them, most (if not all) are unofficial, they never been cataloged, and every lousy fake could be taken as real one. I think the magor sub divisions should be: 1. Military (including sport, military academy etc.) 2. Proffesion and labour 3. Political When I started this thread I thought it would be simple... Another thing - We need an experienced 'badge man" to be a moderator. It is a MUST - before such a forum will become chaotic pictures gallery. Any volounteers, Commrades? Tal |

Tal,
I like your subdivision, but maybe we should add something like "All other badges" to cover volunteer societies, commemorative Sovie leaders badges, etc. As a volunteer to moderate this forum I would nominate Chris, he seems to have a large colection of badges, and a genuine passion for them. Chris, we need you! What do you say? Alexei |

Badges forum
I propose the following three categories:
1. Military, Security and Veterans 2. Labor, Voluntary Organizations and Sport 3. Political, Political Organizations and Deputees I believe that most of the "pure sport" badges are not applicable to the military since they are "voluntary" activities. If space permits I would like to propose to separate security and military sections since each category is very broad on its own Example attached: |

I'll try anything once
Hi Alexie
Well I have to admit I don't think I am that experienced but I have a couple of Russian Books, may have to get some more. If others agree I would give it a go, if I can't handle the pace. Sack me...nothing ventured nothing gained Chris |

Chris,
I am sure there are people with more books and experience out there, but the important thing is that you have genuine interest and appreciation for this field of collecting. You have my enthusiastic vote! Alexei |

Tal,
What were the state prize medals awarded for? What else do you know about these? Kind Regards, Shane Cook. Quote:

State Prizes
State Prizes were awarded for extraordinary achievements in a particular area of Soviet work: they are Russian equivalent of Nobel prize. "Peoples Artist, Writer, Actor, etc" were awarded as the highest degree of recognition for the entire career in that are. They came with certain privilages and certainly were used as political means of honoring people who were supporting Communist regime. I hope this helps
