Re: Translation Help

Gents, I require your help to decipher some handwriting... I am unsure/confused about the part that I put between brackets. The numbers 1,2,3 correspond to each of the three attachments.

1. Unit name:
37th Independant/Separate [Rifle] Brigade, 356th Artillery [Far East] Regiment, Senior Scout

2. Home Address:
Moscow oblast, [Istr..... Rozhdestvenskiy s/s d. Zelenovo] Mother: Bakhtina, Anna Illarionovna [???? tak zhe]

3. Name of Guards Lieutenant-Colonel of signed the doc :
[...ukhovskiy]

Also, how do we translate the word "шоссе"? Is it highway, roadway, or road?

Thanks in advance! :thumbsup

One often sees it translated as highway, but I'd say that 'avenue' comes closest. It's a road leading out of a city, parts of which can have buildings on either side.

Re: Translation Help

Thanks!

For no. 2, based on what you wrote, Lapa, I found that this means the Istra region of Moscow oblast, the rural council (selsoviet) of Rozhdestveno, and the village (derevnya) Zhevnevo.

Although this is not the exact spelling we seem to see for Zhevnevo based on the scan, this seems to make sense. See attached partial map for location of the three named area (Истра, Рождествено, and Жевнево)
Zhevnevo is located around 12km South-East of the city of Istra in straight line.

Re: Translation Help

Etienne,

I believe that the right place is "Зеленково" (postcode 143591) rather than "Жевнево".

Zelenkovo is a few hundred meters to the South-East of Rozhdestveno.

Re: Translation Help

Thanks Lapa!
I hadn't zoomed enough to see that. Also that's a good idea to use the Russian version of Google maps instead of our own local English.

I agree with Ctahh's sentiments but have a slightly different take on it

- (para)military fire-fighting detachment/unit, special firefighting equipment technical services.

Thanks, both, for your help. It's really the grouping of terms I'm not sure about, and I don't know if either rending really catches the meaning. Unfortunately, the term is clunky to begin with.

Does this version change the meaning?

"водитель военизированной пожарной части специальной пожарной техники технической службы"

Would this be "driver, ....."? Or "driver of special firefighting equipment, militarized firefighting unit, technical service"? Or something else?

Another question is, would "paramilitary" or "militarized" be more accurate? I personally think militarized.
