$20 increments would be great. A new award for each time I donate. 8 47.06%
$50 increments would be better, I like a little privacy regarding what I choose to donate. 1 5.88%
I think one graphic only should be given no matter what the donation. 5 29.41%
I don't like it. I'd rather my donations not be recognized by a graphic. 3 17.65%

Forum Supporter Award

Art,

I just notice a new "thing" attached to your profile : a "Forum Supporter Award" avatar.

What is it ?
Is it related to donations or the Gold Forum Donors program ?
Are there other Forum Members with such an award ?
What are the criteria to get it ?
etc, etc...

Cheers.

Ch.

Christophe,

Good eyes. We are working on a way to distinguish Gold Forum Donors.

Rusty.

Guys,

As Rusty said, this is a way to distinguish those who have donated by attaching a small graphic to their forum postbit (the postbit is what the software guys call the area that includes your forum name, avatar, user group, etc.)

I installed this last night and I'm glad to see how many people noticed it. I wanted to see if there would be any problems with the forum after I installed it, and it looks like everything is fine. Now, what graphic do we use to distinguish those who will receive this prestigious award?

Art,

What do you mean by "... what graphic do we use to distinguish those who will receive this prestigious award? "

Thanks,

Art,

Good initiative!!
I think now you have to define your own system of awards , in using (why not) famous Soviet orders, in reduced graphics versions.

Hence, why not doing something in the style of the avatars system you had in the first days of this Forum : 1 post : avatar X; more than 10 posts : avatar Y; more than 100 posts : avatar Z; etc...?

We could imagine different levels of donation : $20 = Red Star graphics; $50 = Order of Glory; $100 = Red Banner; etc... and with each year new donation, you win a second, third, fourth, fifth... order. Then, just have to make equivalences : for example, 3 Red Stars = Red Banner, etc... Some of us will soonly look like Brezhnev !!!

More seriously, I'm sure such a system would motivate Donors !!

What do you think ?

We could also imagine having awards linked to the number of posts of Members : it would encourage them as being active and make contribution !!

Just some ideas...

Cheers.

Ch.

Art,

Just an idea but if you want to have some way of showing how many years someone has donated why not use a red banner 2nd awarding for 2 years and so on.

What do you think?

Mark, nice idea, but will it show up that small?

What I was thinking for the amount donated would be the following:

Order of Victory...$500+
Hero of the Soviet Union...$100-$499
Order of Lenin...$40-$99
Order of the Red Banner of Labor $1-$39

The awards would be cumulative for the total donated over the year(s). So if somoeone gave a one time donation of $20, they would get an Order of the Red Banner..when/if they donated $20 again, they would have that award replaced by an Order of Lenin. What do you guys think of that?

Art,

Not bad !!!

Except that the gap from the Order of Lenin to the HSU ($400) seems a little bit too wide. I think sub-categories would be welcome : too many years to wait for being "upgraded"...

BTW, I already have the Order of Victory... as my avatar .

And why not use WW2 orders to fill the gap: Suvorov, Kutuzov, Nakhimov, Ushakov... ?

hmmm, O.K., Then how about this:

Hero of the Soviet Union...$241-260
Order of Suvorov...$221-240
Order of Ushakov...$201-220
Order of Kutuzov...$181-200
Order of Nakhimov...$161-180
Order of Bogdan Khmelnitsky...$141-160
Order of Alexander Nevsky...$121-140
Order of Lenin...$101-120
Order of the Red Banner...$81-100
Order of the Patriotic War...$61-80
Order of Honor...$41-60
Order of the Red Banner of Labor $21-40
Order of the Red Star $1-20

This way, you will get an award change for every $20 donation. For those that go beyond $260, the awards will be added on..for example if someone donated a total of $500, their awards would be an HSU medal, along with an Order of Suvorov. I would like to use only screwbacks for the awards as I think we should be able to get some nice detail as Tretov's Order of Lenin shows. I could also use a few Republic Awards at the top and move everything down if you feel the lower awards are unexciting.

Also, I'm thinking for the years donated award to be a closeup of the numbered portion of the Red Banner, rather than showing the entire award..
