ORB and OPW 1st
I was curious what people thought about this group. It's one of the few that I have, as I was always dubious about documents, and most people seemed very reluctant to part with documents when I lived in Moscow. It's in pretty sad shape, but a guy with 3 ORBs, a Nevsky, OGPW 1st and BM impressed me.
I was wondering mainly what people thought about the document and whether the medal for combat service was added later (which I had, but unfortunately sold not too long ago since it somehow got separated from the other two and the doc) to see if it's worth trying to get it back. Also, I'm wondering about the OGPW. It's very beat up in the back, and I'm wondering if it's some kind of cover up for a changed number. If things look somewhat kosher I'm probably going to get it researched, since a nice story will at least make me feel a little bit better about the bad condition. I'll post the doc first, and then the two orders |

Re: ORB and OGPW 1st
Here's his 3rd ORB. The number is consistent with the mint mark style. This I think is fine (except for condition, of course)

Re: ORB and OGPW 1st
And now the OGPW 1st...as you can see one of the rays of enamel is jokingly fixed and the back is very beat up. And, clearly, the suspension is fake.

Re: ORB and OGPW 1st
Akula,
Can you please show the first pages of the order book. I tend to think that the OPW is genuine. It was most likely altered to a screwback, and then reconverted to suspension and the number somewhat re-engraved. Let's hear Alexei's opinion on this one. Marc |

Re: ORB and OGPW 1st
Thanks Marc. Here's the first pages with the picture and his name.

I just noticed this thread. I agree, the OGPW looks OK, except for the replaced enamel and the suspension. It was obviously converted to screwback and back to the suspension. I can't quite tell from the pictures, but I think it's possible that the ring could be genuine as well. Alexei |
