I would not call the Avers publications very "reliable" either in basic information or regarding pricing. but, as they say, this is IMHO only Marc |

Re: price guides?
Marc, let me know where you can get a Cavalier set for more than 30% off Igor's price and I'm in!

One can always find one specific item in Igor's extensive inventory that will not agree with the above mentioned opinion As a general remark, his prices are at the very top edge of the price range and "real world" prices tend to be a good 30% lower on average, sometimes more, sometimes less depending on the specific item. I hope that my re-phrasing makes it more palatable Marc |

Re: price guides?
Thanks to everyone here for the excellent advise. I should clarify my position. I have a collection of orders and medals that I acquired in St. Pete in the early 1990s during several trips there for other business. Two Russian friends helped me buy the pieces at the time. I'm aware of the problem of 'copies'. I'm not a dealer and never researched prices and things like type and variation. I simply loved the jewel-like appearance along with the formal elements and superb craftsmanship. Though, from my research, I'm confident that my awards are authentic, I can't be 100% sure. Unfortunately, I don't have any documents but if there are copies in the bunch then they would have to be of extreme high quality. Compared to many of you mine is probably a modest collection - mostly R2, a few R1, one R3 and a handful of common medals.
I've lived with these pieces for almost 20 years and thought maybe other collectors might enjoy some of them. I'm not greedy nor desperate to sell. Just wanted to find out if there was interest. I've been doing a lot of research on the various sites and it's been fun. Thanks again for your collected wisdom. This is a terrific site. ....William |

You may be right about the NJ dealer and how unfair people is to him. Nevertheless, I think there is no right at all to blame people when they complain about it. People who complain about overpriced items in his site (including myself) do not do it with the intention to harm his reputation. It is just said as a comment regarding the high prices soviet awards have reached nowadays, and, unfortunately, he outstands in that topic. It´s a fact. It would not be nice nor fair for new collectors to buy an item by 300% its "real life" price without knowing it. We may not have the responsibility for their homework made or not, but it´s always a nice gesture from other members to help and giving them a source to know. I give you that he can sell at any price he wants. So then, can´t we complain as well?

Re: price guides?
I've been called a master of irony in the past, but here I'm a newbie and there's no sarcasm whatsoever. Lots of people confuse the two.

Re: price guides?
Emanuele, are you Italian? If you are, then I guess you just misinterpreted "terrific" - it means exactly the opposite as in our language!
