Re: Please Vote on Rearrangement of Soviet Bloc section!

Yes, perhaps "down at the bottom" can serve as "misc." (as it now does) and, perhaps, grow into a new category at some stage.

Not sure what "information" needs to be "collected" (Warsaw Pact + COMECON + a few more - Finland and Mexico = forum section?). Can we help?

I make many of these suggestions based on things I have posted (or could post).

Glad to see Myanmar (Burma) included. I can feed this one too. A good bit!

Some countries may "sprout" new categories as needed?

And I half wonder whether the Spanish Republic (1931-39) should be included?

Re: Please Vote on Rearrangement of Soviet Bloc section!

Excellent!

The reforms will of course be flexible and expandable. This "reform" will be a complete overhaul to the section with 3 and possibly 4 additional sections popping up. The earlier "work" that Art and myself did last year was more of a "patch up" job in comparison to this complete overhaul.

When the new reforms come I will strive my hardest to ensure that the changes are implemented as quickly, smoothly and with as little disruption to service as possible.

So seeing we will now have a Soviet Republics section, Former Soviet Republics section, The new named and look "Bloc" section this leaves a Russian Empire section (any suggestions in what else could go in there?) and a possibility of a Post-Communism section for some but not all former Socialist states such as Albania, Mongolia and Bulgaria to name but 3 that already have post-1991 awards on the forum.

A suggestion for the new "Soviet Bloc" section - Awards And Decorations Of Socialist Parties Of Non-Communist Nations.

In which information and items such as "membership badges" of Marxist, Socialist, Communist (you know the type) parties which were or are active in non-communist states. This section of course would be for informational purposes only and NOT a soapbox or propaganda echoing section. There are some very weird and wonderful organisational badges from places such as Italy and many other nations which don't get much if any focus on them.

I would like to thank Art very deeply for his efforts on these reforms past present and future as well as putting up with all the demands on his time my reform suggestions have thrust upon him. I am very pleased with the fact that my suggestions have been listened to and deliberated and hopefully we will all be seeing better things. When the Non-Soviet sections are finished I have more plans for 2012 including ideas on other reforms (although I doubt any will be even half as popular) and at least a couple more competitions.

If anyone has any problems, issues, questions, suggestions anything like that relating to the forum, the ongoing changes, you can freely post them in this general talk section of the forum or if you don't want to post it openly you can always Private message me and I will address whatever needs addressing. If I can help I will help.

Enjoy the forum!

Spain sounds good... No idea how I forgot about it since I just watched half of the Granada (The English TV company) documentary series "The Spanish Civil War".

Alexei Sayle would be proud!

Re: Please Vote on Rearrangement of Soviet Bloc section!

I'm back with my suggestion that there should be a "Paper Item" thread for every country. Since we are at it, why not have a standard set up for each country:
Titles
Orders
Medals
Badges
Award Groups
Paper Items
Uniforms
After all, all countries had armed forces whose members usually did not go bare naked (Uniforms), issued more or less important quantities of more or less official documents (Paper Items), rarely had a strict one-award-per-person policy (Orders/Medals/Badges/Groups). The only "optional" category might be the "Title" one when a country did not have such a thing (by the way, Czechoslovakia had titles). And for the average Forum user, it simplifies both posting and browsing since this structure would be standard throughout the Forum.

I also agree with Ed that the Tuvan Republic has nothing to do here, it was part of the RSFSR and is now a part of the Russian Federation. As such, it should be included with the other components of the USSR.

I am not too clear on this one. Soviet participants were issued Soviet awards (mostly Hero, OL, ORB and ORS). So what are we exactly talking about here?
